Standard #9: Reflection and Continuous Growth
Artifact #1: Teaching Probabilities
Essential Knowledge 9(i): Understands how personal identity, worldview, and prior experiences affect perception and expectations, and recognizes how they may bias behaviors and interactions with others.
Description: While I was reviewing the material to teach a chapter on Combinations, Permutations, and Experimental and Theoretical Probability, I realized that for the most part, the way that I thought about and worked through the problems was with words. I knew that when I was teaching this chapter I'd have to be very aware of that fact the majority of my students are ELL, so learning the material in English does not mean they will be able to think through the problem the same way because they will be thinking in a different language than the language of the classroom. I did my best to incorporate many practice problems, examples, and remain as consistent as possible with my English vocabulary because even a minor change in my own language could impact them in ways I couldn't even understand being that my first and only language is English.
Rationale: I believe this experience fulfills this standard because it demonstrates that I am reflective and aware of how I have learned and think through the material that I teach and consider how that may affect my teaching and my students. After reflecting on these things, I was able to plan my lessons to be more affective for more of my students.

Artifact #2: Attending a Technology Professional Development Meeting
Performance 9(b): Engages in meaningful and appropriate professional learning experiences aligned with her own needs and the needs of the learners, school, and system.
Description: Early in the semester I attended a technology professional development meeting at DIS. Several teachers were presenting technology resources that they use in their classroom. They discussed how they use the technology, what it has done for their students, and how it might be further applied in other classrooms.
Rationale: I believe this experience fulfills this standard because it was a learning experience that the school put on where other teachers who work with the same students I have discussed how the technology resources they use in their classroom has helped students that I also work with. I was able to take a look at the resources and consider how I could apply it to my own classroom. I used one of the quiz websites as a formative assessment for student homework. I was able to assess what students had learned in class and after working on their homework in order to modify my plans for the next lesson if needed.
